About construction work

Construction work done estimates the value of building and engineering activity completed during a period, regardless of when a project was approved or will finish. The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes the state and territory estimates quarterly from its construction activity collections. The three series on these pages keep the available components together, with their own units and adjustment status, because residential building, non-residential work and engineering activity can follow different paths. Current-quarter estimates may be revised as survey responses arrive, project values are updated and seasonal factors are re-estimated; larger national-accounts benchmarking revisions can also alter history. Values can be expressed in current prices or volume terms, so the unit shown beside each chart matters. Work done is not the number of workers, the count of projects, an approval pipeline or company revenue. It records estimated completed activity and does not predict future construction, property supply or listed-company performance.
