Western Australia state final demand

Western Australian state final demand deliberately excludes the trade balance, so it should be read separately from export-led production. These paired measures track internal spending in total and for each resident.

About state final demand

State final demand measures spending within a state or territory by households, governments and businesses, including investment, but excluding international and interstate trade. The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes it quarterly in the Australian National Accounts, with chain-volume estimates designed to show changes after removing direct price effects. This topic brings the total and per-capita state series together. State final demand is a proxy for domestic state activity, not a state-level gross domestic product flow: the ABS does not publish a quarterly state GDP flow. It can rise while export-facing production weakens, or fall while net exports support broader output. National-accounts estimates are revised as source data improves, seasonal factors are re-estimated and annual supply-use or state accounts benchmarks are incorporated. Per-capita results also depend on population estimates. The series describe recorded demand; they are not a measure of household welfare, a forecast or advice about markets or policy.
