About this ranking
For New South Wales, this ranking divides each suburb's latest median house price by 52 weeks of its median weekly household income, then orders the resulting price-to-income ratios from lowest to highest. Price observations are Valuer-General-derived; income and population come from the ABS Census, joined at suburb level. Suburbs need a positive price, positive income and at least 200 residents. That keeps missing values out of the arithmetic and limits unstable results from very small areas. The two inputs do not share the same vintage: Census income changes slowly while the page reports the newest available property-price period. The ratio is a broad local comparison, not a mortgage-serviceability calculation. It ignores deposits, interest rates, taxes, household composition, dwelling quality and income distribution, and it is not a claim that a particular home is affordable for a particular buyer.
